Using your fridge and freezer to speed up curing
    #854793 - 01/09/22 12:28 AM (2 years, 9 months ago)

Anyone tried this before? I assume if I throw my fresh humid curing jars (SEALED) into fridge, the very slight leak of air from mason jars + the dry atmosphere of fridge would speed up cure. Am I crazy?

If your mason jars are sealed, then the amount of gas exchange across the lid will be on the order of molecules per hour, and will tend to favor oxygen rather than water.

Furthermore, the curing process is meant to keep the bud held within a certain range of water content and temperature, which allows the metabolic enzymes of the plant cells to break down undesirable compounds and excess sugars that, if left in the bud, give it undesirable flavors and aromas when smoked. Dropping the temp can actually stall the curing process, since this enzymatic process is temperature-dependant. The burping of the jars keeps mold or bacteria from taking hold during this process without drying out the bud too quickly, which can also stall out the curing process.

Hope this helps :pipesmoke:

They do make a cryogenic drying/curing chamber, look up cryocure.
