Just as well, back in my beginnings of weed smoking I was a bit of a metal head. Alice in Chains, Nirvana, COC, metallica. All pretty tame and mainstream as far as Rock goes. Still listened to a lot of folk and outlaw country.
Well I started to discover and explore into the southern metal scene bands, but it was just too abrasive. I just couldn't allow myself to like such EXTREME fucking music. Whats the point? Some of the bands were okay, but others were just puzzling. Well I smoked down a doob and was sitting out under the oaks in the front yard. That summer sun beating down on me through the branches. And I had my big Sony Headphones on that I had stole from my sister, plugged into a shitty cracked handmedown iphone 4.
And I was sitting there listening to the same ol shit, and I got this funny idea pop into my head. Listen to that EYEHATEGOD band you found the other day. No idea why, because I couldn't stand it. I didn't really dig it at all. I thought it was almost kinda scary. The name made me uncomfortable...
So I found their Southern Discomfort album. And I'm still coming up hard as the tracks are playing. And then this beauty comes on
And then I suddenly get it. All my preconceived notions about the band, all my opinions and apprehentions about the screaming and the music. Thats all gone. And I'm just listening to the music. And I start bobbing my head and I get this insane rush. I'm listening to the absolutely most awesome music I've ever heard. The dynamic of the guitar, the driving beat of those drums, the nonsensical delivery of Mike's vocals. Its not extreme, or scary, or anything. Theres no labels. I'm just bobbing my head having the time of my life, truly listening to music, with no filter. The rest of the high and that album was absolutely awesome.
I've been a die hard fan and metal head since then.
I can't wait to smoke and rediscover music like that again. So awesome.
Every one of their albums is great btw

FBF, you might like Pelican.
Its instrumental, has a similar (although lighter, maybe more like post rock or heavier grunge). Its great for studying, and I've had a good time lighting up a joint with it in the past.
Also if you were into Nirvana and that sort of scene, have you heard 4th of July by Soundgarden? Word is that Chris Cornell wrote this song after a particularly difficult acid trip.
And if you're into heavier doom/stoner metal, Lamb of God and Chimera have some excellent apocalyptic-sounding songs you might enjoy.
I'm a huge fan of Jinjer's Pisces when I'm looking for a chill smoke song.

I used to own that Soundgarden album on a casette in my ol Honda Accord back in highschool. Would drive my sister nuts with it on the way there!
Pelicans cool I'll have to check it out, I dig the instrumental stuff.
