They really are and theyre very well made too, i recommend them to anyone that just likes good dependable basic stuff.
I wanted to put Arch linux on mine

Can confirm. I work for a big company who uses a lot of those laptops to run machines 24/7....I hate the little red mouse thing in the middle of the keyboard...nobody uses that shit

Oh dude i love the trackball. You can disable it in the mousepad settings;
I have the sensitivity on mine way down, got a X250, mousepad for mouse, trackball for text correction
Mousepad gestures disabled, got the scroll the way i like it.
