I've never grown weed before but I will give my opinion/advice. Test your indoor setup with some legal plant first. Something that would benefit from more flower production than vegetative growth, or perhaps both. This way you can gain an understanding of basic botany as well.
Then when you're ready to step up, take some bag seed and experiment with that.
Just a thought, good luck!

seeds+soil+light+water:
well thats the basics.....
grab some seeds and soil and some LARGE cfl bulbs from walmart (this will work for seedlings and vegging)... if they live to be big, upgrade to a better light and flower em. (you may want some nutes too)

Try reading an actual book. Sure, all the info is available online, but a book is a good solid chunk of reading that covers all the basics. It will make sure you don't skip over any information.
I read "Gardening Indoors: Growing with Soil & Hydroponics" by George Van Patten, A.K.A Jorge Cervantes. Its his marijuana book but rewritten to leave the marijuana out. Someone recommended it to me without the knowledge that it was the same guy and book, otherwise I would have got the one specific to bud. Its still a very book to get started with. I've wanted to read one of Ed Rosenthal's books to see how it compares. I think he's going to come out with a new book soon that was suppose to cover LED lighting somewhat so I was going to wait for that.
$20 is not much for the amount you get out of it.

This right here. Growing weedisn't as simple as just lights, soil and water. It takes time, and knowledge, and experience. Read as much as you can, then if you have specific question ah away. We're more than happy risk hero someone who helps themselves
