Growing weed in a house that you rent

I was just wondering how risky or safe it would be to grow weed in a house that you are renting? Does the landlord need let you know if he's going to be coming over a certain amount of time before he does or can they just come over at any time they want?

Anyone here grow in a rented house or know of anyone who grows in a house they rent?

Easiest thing to do is ask your landlord.  I rent my house and i've never even met my landlord, in fact tomorrow when he shows the house will be the only personal contact i'll have with him.

You can request that you be notified of any maintenance, that's within your rights.  However, your landlord OWNS your property so they have the right to inspect it at any point (reasonable, they can't show up at 3 am and demand an inspection).  Most of the times all these people care about is keeping the property looking nice and getting their rent.

Word of advice, put a lock on the door with your growroom.  This way if someone pops in while you're not there they can't get in.  If they inquire about it just say it's storage for expensive equipment (i dj, so that's the excuse i use).

Growing in a rented house is usually a bit safer then an apartment, but you still need to keep a little bit of worry in the back of your mind

You can grow hundreds of plants in a rented house. Rented homes generally are much safer. The people who rent them in most cases WILL never stop by unless they get complaints of a bad kept lawn/home/loud noises/etc.... Pay you're rent on time/ keep the lawn and house in good condition and your solid. As the guy above said you can ask for notification on when maintenance will have to be done (If it ever does).

I grew inside of a 4x4 hydrohut.  The last run i did only had 5 plants, but that was due to time restrictions.  In all honesty i could have converted that entire bedroom into a grow op if i wanted.

I guess you never heard of rental inspections??? 
Landlords are supposed to give notice in advance of inspections but they don't always do so.  They have keys and can drop in "to just check the heating" whenever they like.

Growing hundreds of plants in a rented house would be a great way to earn yourself a 20 year stretch.

So it sounds like a small closet grow would be very possible, but a whole bedroom set-up would be a little too risky.

definitely, but always remember you still run the risk of a landlord finding out.  So you need to be as secure as you can possibly be.

So do most growers here actually own the house they are growing in?

And what are the chances of the cops taking your house if you got busted with a large grow op in a house that you owned? Do they have a right to take your house away from you?

yup, i don't know if every state does it, but i know most states have the right to take property involved in drug crimes.

So growing in a rented house it's easier to get busted cause the landlord has the right to come in whenever they want. But growing in a house you own is slightly riskier cause if you do get caught there is a chance they will take your house away.

So where do all you guys and your frineds grow at??? In a rented house or in a house they own???

most people will answer rented.  When you look at the demographics of the posters here, most of us are still in the early 20's or so.  Growing in an owned house is less riskier then a rented one.  If you take the proper precautions the chances of getting caught are almost nil.  And, unless you're growing hundreds of plants, the likelihood of them confiscating your house are pretty small too.

i will answer rented on this old post with some good advice... do the maitnace yourself i.e fix toilet sink lights windows... if u can do that... i only met my landlord once and it was his wife showing the upstairs to a collage student..

Something I always tell people that grow in rented houses is to use the grow tents. So if you do get fucked the landlord can demand to come in but he can't demand to look in the tent you develop film in, aroma therapy, or whatever the hell you do in that tent he can't look in it. :wink:
