Outdoor strain suggestions
    #723795 - 03/29/14 11:35 PM (10 years, 1 day ago)

I know I'm being lazy by making this thread and I should be doing research on the subject.
But the decision to start a grow was just made today.

Now I've been out of the loop when it comes to growing, and not completely sure exactly what to look for just yet. I'm in MN and we have a pretty short grow season. So i'm thinking an autoflower would be ideal. I've heard a lot of mixed opinions on them but I think that'll be right for me.

Goals are:
Getting a half pound to a pound of weed
Making a good amount of concentrates out of the end product

Still doing my research, but I figured I might as well start this thread to get some direction.

Don't have much experience growing other than a few bagseed grows in highschool, I used to research the fuck out of growing when I was younger but lost interest. So right now I'm just freshening up the memory.

TL;DR
Looking for outdoor strain that will do well in a short grow season. Any direction or advice on what to look for would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in

How short is a short grow season? I think with autoflower as long as they can survive the climate, they'll finish, but idk how the quality is. Could probably just stick with some of the older well established seedbanks like Sensi Seeds and read their descriptions for yield. check out gorilla seedbank.

I think most strains given enough root room will grow pretty damn big, and you should be able to grow most stuff outside unless otherwise noted. Can always grow more than one plant if the yield isn't enough.

Sorry this wasn't much help for a strain choice.

Well, its a day away from april, and I'm in a winter storm warning tomorrow
So I'm thinking the earliest I'll be able to plant is mid to late may. And the first freeze could happen in late september/early october. So I mean it's long enough to grow some indicas, I just want to be sure that the plants will be fully mature by the time I harvest.

And I think I already know what seed banks I'm going to use. I plan on getting 12 feminized auto flower from one, still not positive on which strain but I think I have a good idea.

And then I'm going to get around 20-30 of seeds from another breeder since they're a lot cheaper and I want to make sure I have enough plants incase something goes wrong, then I should have plenty of plants to fall back on. I'm gonna split it up into 3-4 different plots.

I went with some white widows for my outdoor this year.  I got nice fat buds and the plants grew big and bushy on my last outdoor grow with them.  They over filled my indoor flower room as well!

I still have a foot of snow on the ground so my veg room is going to get crowded in the next month or so.  Hoping to have some outside by the end of May....

I would go with a bunch of autoflowers.  They'll definitely finish up in time in your climate.

I wouldn't do autoflowers up north. Especially as a beginner. Too much can go wrong.
I got more from one late flowering sativa last year than all of the autos.

Volc... check out a strain called Guerrilla Gold #3, I haven't tried it yet but it looks good for high latitude outdoor.

Really?  Like what?  Autoflowers are designed for that type of climate.  Hell, ruderalis evolved in exactly that type of climate.

Yeah Ive been seeing a lot of mixed reviews with the autoflowers, Idk I was thinking of trying out a couple auto's and then some non auto. Not sure yet. Man I'd fucking Love to grow some sativas but I just don't see that working out up here

Also, would it be a bad idea for me to have multiple plots and a bunch of plants in case I have issues with certain plots, or since Im a beginner should I just have one plot to focus all my attention on?

Nah, they'll be in fields way out in the middle of nowhere
The best spot is surrounded by corn fields for miles, and a bunch of trees surrounding the land so I won't have to worry about people spotting it.

I have a few friends with some property that I could grow on, but I'd rather just not involve anybody else, or tell anyone that I'm doing a grow.

GDP. Good indica strain that yields well. With half of May, June, July and half of Aug to veg you should get a decent amount from each plant.

Dont tell a soul!

I would deff do a few small plots with three or four plants at each one.  They dont have to be miles apart, just a different spot in case you have an issue with someone or somthing stumbling upon them.

Yeah, I'll have them all pretty far apart just to be safe.
One of the plots would be on property my family owns. It's a huge plot of land and its just sitting there out in the middle of nowhere
