SWIM is using a cabinet that is about 33"x15" and 2' from the top of pot to the light. Is a 250w hortolux hps to strong for that space? Any advice would be great.

with proper ventilation the 250 should be ok. Your biggest problem will be cab temps going out of control, hook up a good exhaust system and things should stay pretty even.
as for strains id say go with a pure indica in that small of a space.
