I am pretty sure it's not my browser because I tried both chrome and TOR and both have the same results.

Do you have enough posts to goto them groups? Or time?
Usually if you get that error it means u don't have the required time or post count to join certain forums. Like our Thunderdome. If you were to try and enter it as a noob, you would get that error message. Just a guess. I don't visit shroomery to often so not sure of their requirements.
