so I have about 3 weeks or so left until harvest and just had a quick question.. is it smart to trim off fan leaves from the bottom? I read a post on here that said yeah its no big deal you can trim the leaves under the canopy but my question is how far up do you trim? Do you not want to trim fan leaves that are extending from bud sites? Or does the more fan leaves I trim off allow the bud sites to grow bigger seeing how they can absorb more light now? If someone could give me a good overview on how to effectively trim my plants down to maybe beef up some of the smaller looking buds over the next few weeks that would definitely be awesome. Thanks guy!
After having seen this I'd say keep the fan leaves on the buds:
But pruning is totally normal. It means you pick off the leaves and buds on the lowest 6"s of the plant to prevent animals from crawling up, also those buds won't develop all too well because they usually don't get enough light so they only suck energy off the well lit upper buds.
personally i trim all of the smaller bud sites a week into flowering. i NEVER remove fans period.
if anything tuck the fans down to shed more light on the lower sites. or even better...tie those bitches down a bit to allow more light to penetrate through the canopy. there's stored energy in those fan leaves....removing them could only slow things down for you.
this is how i do it at least. i think the question of removing fans will always be a topic for debate
