whats up
    #579272 - 08/18/11 07:05 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Ive been a member of the shroomery for a few years.

Just got my card. I know some basics of growing but the true knowledge comes from experience.

I'm starting obvouisly. Mostly I wanted information on lighting and what I need to make a hydro kit myself.

Please post ideas.

technically all you need is a 10 gallon bucket (those home depot buckets work), a net pot, water pump, air pump or stone and a soiless substrate. just cut a 4" hole in the lid of your bucket for the net pot. drill two holes in the lid one for your pump hose to run the water out and through your net pot and then a second one for your airstone or air pump in. the bucket its self will be your reservoir and just sink your pump into the bottom of it so it will circulate the water from inside the bucket out over your substrate. adding a little H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) will help alot too. a few drops per litre is enough.

you can add a chiller too but ive seen people grow fat ass 8+ oz plants using these buckets under 400-600w HPS. whole thing should cost you under 200 bucks if you shop right. plus your lights obviously.

if you insist on doing it yourself that's the easiest way imo. and its something i have seen done really successfully many times.

Thank you sir.

Thats what I was thinking. I was going to buy buckets and get some net cups. I looked at the EBB n Flow kit.

I was thinkin I could build one myself easily if I have the right parts. Instead of spending big bucks.

if your crafty you can build pretty much anything. I think the user "yellownotepad" has proven that to everyone on here.

just add up the costs because for somethings its just cheaper to buy the equipment then to DIY (quality is often better too).

Now I checked out another friends medical grow last night. He has a carbon filter.

My goal is to have my house scentless. Incase friends are over.

He was just in veg. the odor was strong when you entered the house. Ive read ozone gens are bad for plants and animals.

What is my best option to filter the air in the room so I dont have any odor outside the room? Feel free to post links. Much appreciated.

a carbon filter properly fitted for the size of the room with hi-grade fresh carbon in it.

and ozone is fine as long as its kept 2000ppm. once it hits 3000ppm it becomes toxic to people etc. people say its bad for plants but i mean ive never seen any adverse effects from people using it and they work fucking great.

there are also other odor neutralizing products you can bye as well(these can get pricey as time goes on when you take refills into account).

Well I was going to buy a Ozone gen at first then I read it was toxic. But If I can keep it under 2000 ppm. Which I should be able too. I think it would work great. more affordable than a carbon filter.

depending on what strain and how large your show will be, i would suggest the carbon filter first then get the ozone if it isnt cutting it.

As I started out I wanted to make it as cheap as possible. Active carbon, a blower and everything else can get pricey. I eventually wanted to add them in just not til I could get the ball really rolling.

you can get cheap fan/filter combos on Ebay and Amazon. and ozone isnt 100% effective. works great in combination with the fan/filter but on its own...meh.

if you are really trying to skimp on costs and are worried about smell go with this

those ona breeze fans work amazing, they dont just mask the smell they neutralize it. but the problem with that is 1. your whole house will smell like it if you use the breeze fan. 2. refill costs add up.

but it is the cheapest thing you can do to start with if your budget is month to month.

I did some research and found some cheaper 900 CFM fans. My grow rooms roughly 10x10x8.

Its on the second floor. Which is hard to vent the fan exhaust out the window. Any suggestions?

got a chimney in the house? if you dont have a working fireplace you can always vent out through the chimney. if not the best thing you can do at that point if outside isnt an option is to vent it into a room. but thats not always a good a idea for many reasons stealth/heat/humidity.

No chimney. How warm will the air be running into the other room?
