Hi, I have been lurking around here long enough. I am ready to try growing some herb. My greatest obstacle is finances. I really do not have much money to spend on this at the moment. I have read that it is possible to get some bud with a few CFL. I was thinking that would be the most economical way to go. I could get eight light sockets from two ceiling fans. How could I wire the 8 light sockets together? Thank you for any help that you can offer.

Also, from what I've read auto-flowering strains perform well under CFLs.

Thank you for the picture. That is kind of what I was thinking about. However I do not want to use a battery. Could I just cut off the end of an extension cord, connect all the parallel bulbs to it and plug it in the wall? Would that be a fire hazard?

I use a Bathroom wall light fixture from Home Depot with 6 sockets and I bought a replacement power drill cord and spliced the 2 together. This was all done with the advise from an electrician because I had know Idea if I was going to burn my place down. I currently have 6 , 68 watt CFL bulbs (408 watts total) in it and I'm have not had a problem. They were bought from Home Depot also. Total cost around $140. Good luck!

a couple things for thought: first don't do something that might kill you, If you think your going to be burning down you house you might want to try something else. second don't make homemade shit you will be buying and nicer light anyway(when you get your skills down) so save your money till you have about 200 to 300 hundred and just buy a good t-5 with a good refelctor in it and you will on you way. Third here is a seceret about electric "It's invisable and it will kill you". Also there is alot to take in to consideration how big is your space, how many plants, ventalition, personal use (how much you need just for you, figure for three months because things take time), and different types of control. I'm not saying homemade shit doesn't do the job but when you buy quality stuff there is no comparison.

You can pick up some socket - to - outlet converters at Walmart for about $1 each. You can plug those directly into a powerstrip, which you can find for ~$4 each if you look in the right places.

Agreed. I also have 2 fire extinguishers. I sleep next to one, and I keep the other right outside my grow area. I think your dumb to grow without out at least one.

 I've been doing it like that for 2 years now or so...I never have trouble with them even getting hot 
Seems like a pretty basic thing to me. It doesn't really need to be expensive.
