So I have this family that I've known for a while and become friends with visiting the town I live in a few days. Their mother is a United flight attendant which means I get to fly as friends and family, which is basically free domestic, and I only have to pay tax for international.
The problem is they are very religious and the dad of the family is a ex DEA officer and very anti drug.
Under medical marijuana provisions, I grow weed.
I'm not concerned about them calling the cops we are too close for that however do you guys think it would be better to break it to them before they visit my apartment, or let them find out on their own? Whatever happens it's sure to be epic lolz.

Sounds like asking for trouble. Whether growing with state-approval or whatever, it's still a federal offense and (ex)DEA is federal.

Just tell them. You are in compliance with state law and you said he was ex-DEA. I hardly think he would report you to law enforcement after you tell him that you are growing and have you medical license to do so. If he gives you shit, then you could always say that you simply grow as a side job for medical dispensaries.
In a nutshell, just be honest. It goes a long way.

I think that would be as soon as he walks into the house. Which would not be advisable, imo. I would tell him up front just in case he has a problem staying there with the plants especially considering he is ex- law enforcement. He might not want to even be around regardless if you have a state license to grow.

Well they aren't staying with me, but the basically the backstory is they were the family who helped me become emancipated when I was 16 and break away from a destructive environment and situation. Now a couple of years later this is the first time they are coming out from Virginia to visit and check in and see how I'm doing. The tent is in the back of my apartment next to the bathroom, so as long as they don't need to use the bathroom I'll be okay. LOL.

they're only in the first week of flowering, and I have a nice big carbon scrubber hooked up and the tent has enough negative pressure to keep the smell in.

Nice, you should post some pictures of your setup. Unless you have them posted already then you should just link me. (is it the link in your signature? or is that an old grow?)
If you think you can have him over without him detecting the plants, then just keep it on the DL but if there's a decent enough chance he will notice, then I would just be upfront about it. You are in compliance with state law (at least it seems that way)

Yeah it's the link in my sig first time I decided to document everything.
I was able to hide everything when I had the yearly inspection from my landlord association but the inspectors they sent weren't that smart and I had to cut down my venting for the day. Was alot of hassle. I guess I'll just ride the wave of truth out.

Yeah they must have been pretty retarded. Hard to believe that people who are there on the sole purpose to inspect your property could miss an entire grow setup
