Hey there guys, I was gonna post this over at the shroomery but I figured since I joined up here and hadn't said anything yet I may as well get a post happening.
For a few years now I have been drinking up every night pretty much, not over the whole few years, I have gone through small periods where I have abstained.
I don't consider myself an alcoholic in the typical sense, as in someone who drinks up all day and night. I just drink beer every night, get a bit pissed, chill out and read shit on the internet or in the paper and go to bed.
I just hate waking up every morning feeling like shit and tired as fuck. I am not writing this to seek a solution, the solution is simply to just stop drinking.
I just find it so hard to not do it though. I wake up in the morning and promise myself I won't drink that night, but most nights I just end up doing the same thing. The part that shits me more than anything is that I used to drink as a way of self-medicating my insomnia but I have actually learned to chill the fuck out when I go to bed now and can sleep just fine without it. I just seem to have a great desire to do it still and just end up going and buying some beer each night.
I guess it all comes down to self discipline, but I was just wondering if anyone is or has ever found themselves in the same boat.

Yeah, thats an alcoholic homie.
It doesn't matter when or how much...but if you tell yourself you're not going to, and you do, and find it hard to stop...well, if thats not an alcoholic, its certainly somone whos on their way.

Calling an addiction a disease always seemed like a crutch to me. I know too many people who act like they have no control, when in reality they have all the control.

i drink a lot but not everyday
i drink about 6-10 drinks about 4 times a week

I probably drink 3+ a day, and on special days I drink like 20, or until I can't drink anymore anyway.

I used to drink hard every night as a replacement, then I toned it down and drink 1-2 nights a week.

Cheers for the replies, seems a few of you are or have been in the same situation before.
I don't consider it to be a disease, at least not in my case anyway, it's just an addiction and a habit that needs dealing with.
That South Park episode is one of my favourites too.
Funnily enough I have never had the same issue with weed, so I think I might have to light up a joint and watch some South Park.

I've been smoking a lot more weed lately than in the recent past and my urge to drink has significantly lessened.

I know its an old thread, but fuck, I just read that wiki page and I'm almost all of that shit.
In the "drinking patterns" one, the only thing that doesn't apply to me is "Driving drunk and not getting arrested or involved in an accident." because I don't let myself drive.
