How's everyone's night goin'?
Mine: Not so hot.
Ran out to get a soda (ice cold Mexican Coca-Cola), went inside, grabbed the Coke, no line, paid, went back outside and my "locked" bike is gone.
Great, carbon fiber, beautiful, road bike. I only had her about 2 years, and she's how I get around!
I filed a police report, but wtf, they're not gonna find my bike.

I'd give you my singlespeed if you were closer 
I had a buddy that used to steal bikes. He always wanted to get me involved, but I loved my bikes so I just couldn't do it.

Now that I have a new nice bike im scared to go get it out of moms garage cause now I live in an even shittier redneck meth town

yeah I had a nice bike too and someone stole it, the bad part was that it wasnt even my bike, it was my dads and he spent a lot of money on it, made me feel guilty at myself and pissed at whoever stole it

yeah bolt cutters will cut through locks. Also consider pipe cutters, which will cut through the pipe you locked your bike too. Pipe cutters can cut through ridiculously thick pipes.

Seats are like 20 bucks. If you have a nice road bike, nothing you can do can deter someone from stealing it if they have the proper tools and the time to do so.
That is why I always lock my bike up in well lit areas and areas with lots of foot traffic

I would think it's a really effective deterrent because a part of most thieves' plans is riding away on the bike.

seats come off soo easily that they would probably just take the seat from the bike next to yours (persuming you are locked up near other bikes)

A couple years ago, I bought my first road bike (a Bianchi) after returning from a 1 1/2 year cycling trip across India, that beat my Cannondale to hell and back. It was the first Bike I bought since 1997, and had it a week before someone tried to steal it. The worst part was, that once they failed to cut the lock, they preceded to try and cut the frame. And even though they didn't succeed, ended up destroying the bike.
