What I do not understand is if the west is hardly growing, birth rate wise, and all of this growth is happening in impoverished areas, how are they not hitting a ceiling?
Foreign aid?

It's one of the unfortunate side effects of their economic development. I think we are seeing a third world "baby boom" that will hopefully in a few decades level out with the rest of the world.

Yeah I guess China has had a massive economic boom, like double the people making $2 or more than a few years ago.

You're thinking about this all wrong: 1) china has one of the largest middle classes in the world. 2) the price of commodities isn't static across the globe (what i can buy in india for a dollar is not the same as what I can get in the US) 3) these people don't need to eat enough to be healthy, but only enough to stay alive 4) In Bhutan, which has one of the highly PGR in the world, the issues of growth are centered around better health care (less babies and children dying), and the fact that subsistence farmers usually breed like rats, because traditionally many of their children died, and an extra set of hands on the farm is always a welcomed addition.

Your right, as people become wealthier they have less children. I just thought as all these people go from $1 a day to $2 they might have more children. But I guess thats a gross assumption.

I'm not sure if it's true. I just copied some random fact off an internet site.

Mars? That would be even worse than living in Nevada.
