 Rigging PC fans to AC adapters...

So, I recently tore apart all my old computers to get the fans...got 5-10. Seems they all run on 12 volts, but I can only find 9 volt adapters...if I remember correctly, its OK to use LESS but not ok to use MORE, right?
Also, some of them have a third yellow wire? I'm assuming this is the ground? Because when I attach the black and reds, it works without using the yellow, so I just trimmed them back.
I don't wanna burn my house down, so I figured I'd ask. I'll be home all day while they are running (today) but I'm not always here to make sure nothings on fire.

You are in the clear, the fans will run just fine with the setup you are referring to.
No worries, no fires, they don't even get hot.
Those 9v adapters will run them at 3/4 maximum cfm but its better than nothing.
