I have heard of this Brett guy before, and just thought it was stupid.
When the Mom read the kids salvia journal I was pretty surprised... I am not really sure if Salvia's awakenings (which from the few sentences I believe were beautiful) contributed to his suicidal thoughts.
But when you discover the truth, it all depends on if you look at it in the positive or negative way. Not even mentioning all the health, spiritual, and equality reasons that we already know for salvia and other psychedelic to be legal, Brett's case does not give any reason for salvia to illegal.
Brett may have had "awakenings from salvia" and "these truths he discovered" may or may not have made him feel suicidal. If these salvia thoughts did lead to his suicide, it shouldn't make salvia look bad. Ways of discovering meaning and truth shouldn't be illegal because they may be unpleasant truths.
Also, they talk about Salvia being used for spiritual purposes in Oaxaca (where they also use Morning Glory Seeds, Dream Herb, Mushrooms, and DMT) and then they say "but in America it's all about the trip".
 The trip is the spiritual journey! 
All drugs should be legalized, especially psychedelics and marijuana.

I would not care if it was made illegal. As is, it is way too expensive for the shitty trip. However, I do have a salvia plant back at home that is very healthy and will be ready to take cuttings soon.

Salvia does suck. I had much from JLF back in the day before coaster even did drugs... It sucked then, and even more now. It doesnt awaken shit, it makes you coastarded.

All drugs should be legal, not because they are "good" or "bad" but because we should have the right to do what we want with your own body.
Plus, I have read up a shit load on psychedelics and I am just waiting for the right time and oppurtunity to trip.

Freaking out is a chance one takes when doing recreational drugs
However, proper set, setting and dosage will almost always prevent a 'freak out'
I don't care for Salvia either but don't think it should be illegal
Just because a drug has the potential to 'freak you out' is no reason to make it illegal
alcohol is real good at doing that to people
I've seen many EPIC freak outs from alcohol

On a related note, my friend who killed himself last fall did it while drunk off of jack from what I've heard. So I may be biased with the whole alcohol thing.
But I'll at least admit that that bias is probably there.
