Flowering is triggered by a hormone that the plant makes during the dark cycle. Cultivated indoor varieties are generally bred to flower under 12 hours of darkness. However, plants outside respond differently and will flower without necessarily receiving 12 hours of total darkness. When your plant will start to flower depends on your latitude and the strain.
