We don't, it's the time the fungi choose.

It rains and is shitty, the fog covers the ground you walk on.... The mushroom is like "awesome ima just pop my head out a little more today" and that's when you grab that little bastard and rip him from his home and take him to your home, I usually wait till the weather is cold for about 6 weeks then I wait for a week where it has rained for 3 days on and off then I wait 2 days and I go out... rain hail or shine I never come back empty handed because I can feel when they are out.

Nah, that poast made sense to me. Humidity and FAE makes them bloom, been awhile since I grew boomers though.

I wish I knew how to identify them from poisonous ones and also wish I had that intuition to know when they're out

Once you start picking its easy to figure out. Here they first pop up about October 15 - November 15 depending on the weather conditions. They usually grow into early Feb.
