NaOH releases Hydrogen ions when added to water, not harmful at all, but explosive

Add you NaOH to water, Id say about half a teaspoonful, and then slowly add more while testing the PH to adjust it to a pH of 1 or 2 whichever you are using for the extraction, (ive read a pH of 1, but also of 2 )

It really isn't though if you know what you are doing. If you do everything right, and you were to massspec a sample of your extraction it should have no trace amounts of any of the chemicals used. NaOH always leaves me with the purest end product.

So, I have buddy who wants to do this (seriously, hes just doesn't want to make an account for a few questions he wants to ask haha).
He has 150g of root bark. How should the ratio be adjusted accordingly? Instead of 100g lye, would he use 150? How about the water? Neither of us are too good at math lol.
Also - does the water HAVE to be distilled? He just made a quick run to the hardware store to get the lye and napatha, but didn't bother going to Walmart for some distilled water...

I would do a test extraction on 50grams, leaving you with 100grams leftover so you can get the hang of it with the tester extraction.....Is it powdered or whole? You have to add NaOH to the DISTILLED water until the PH of it goes to 13.5, and wait until it cools to room temp to add the bark...if you dont got a PH tester, just use 50-100grams NaOH for 50grams bark, or use 100grams NaOH if you are using 100grams bark... I use a normal plastic turkey baster with a fish-pump hose stuck in the end to make it a SMALL hole in the tip. The bigger the hole in your turkey baster, the harder it is to pull ONLY naphtha...you will see......you want a SMALL hole in the tip You can also clean the naphtha after you pull and right before you freeze with sodium carbonate to get rid of any chances of pulled NaOH, and get CLEAR DMT instead of yellowish... Just PM me if you need a101 on sodium carbonate cleaning or anything else

Im the OP, and the reason i said not to use podwered, is because when i did using STBtek, the naphtha layer at the top didnt seperate AT ALL, i think because there was bark particles, but it was BROWN...i pulled it anyway and tried to freeze precip in a 1/2pint jar, and got about an inch-thick of brown-red gunk instead of DMT....so what i had to do was pull the brown naphtha, and do like 5 sodium carbonate washes on it until its clear enough and freeze to get brown DMT crystals instead of brown gunk, and i just did a re-xstal on the brown crystals, and got clear ones....Still yielded GRAMS....ALOT of people say they use powdered with no problems though, idk,...Break up 50grams of it with your hands AS MUCH AS YOU CAN until your hands cant do it anymore and do a test extraction and see what happens....Here is a link to a post i posted about brown naphtha on the Nexus https://dmt-nexus.com/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=9110
