Yea me too, I have only used one a few times and every time it whacked my wrist and hurt like a bitch :lol:

But the idea of hunting with one is awesome, like a back to nature kinda thing

:flamethrow::onfire:

But yeah. I used to make some pretty decent long bows when I was a teen. I never was the greatest shot but I make up for that with my gun abilities. The bow has being much more primal going for it.

I recently bought my oldest kid his first compound bow. I forget the brand of it. Nothing special but he loves it so far.

I bow, and rifle hunt every year for deer and turkey. Bow hunting is the rawest hunting there is, if you miss you could be waiting hours or days(not really the case where I live now deer are over populated as hell here) to see another one close enough to try at. I sit in the tree stand before the sun comes up and watching everything come awake is a beautiful sight. Nothing like your heart speeding up when you hear something walking through the brush wondering if it could be a record buck or some little spiker coming through. And if you are not a good clean shot you could be fallowing a blood trail for a mile or better, then trying to get it back to the truck can be real fun as well lol.

I'm also into black powder. I have a .50 rifle and a 1-7/8" X 6" mortar. Those are fun to play with.

I've hunted a litle but never very seriously. I may yet get into it more later in life.

When I moved to MN from Iowa, I could not believe the deer population here. It is insane how over populated they are up here. You drive down the highways early morning and see 40 or more head in a field easily. Best time is right at dusk you see just how insane it is, body shops make a mint up here during deer season lol.

Oh yeah the deer pop. is pretty crazy, makes for excellent hunting. Thankfully I havent hit one yet with my car, you get pretty used to always being on the lookout for deer when its dark.

There has been a lot of warning around here too, more than usual thats for sure. I have not hit one with my car either(knock on some wood) but my friend has nailed 4 in the last 2.5 years, he does not slow down at night and that is when it usually happens. You got to slow down in some of the real bad areas and watch for those eyes in the ditch.

We have a shit load of them here too. When it comes into running into them though I've had a lot more deer run into me than I have ran into them.

My old ladies dad had one try and catch a ride with him doing 60. And yes they can mess a car up real nice, thats why I said about the body shops up here, they rake it in mainly at deer season with them running from all the hunters. I have come close on a few occasions but knock on wood I have been lucky to slow down in time. It is weird how they will just run into the side of stuff. I saw one run into the side on a semi trailer. I watch it come across the field figuring it would stop because it was not going to make it in front of the thing, but no it just kept on coming and bam right into the trailer. Good thing they taste good or they would have to be the stupidest animals around lol.

I've never hunted with one but I love to hear the twang of the bowstring.

My dad just gave me his compound bow and I'm really looking forward to shooting it when the weather cools down.
But I'm a bit concerned, it's got like an 80lbs pull and the string has got to be ~10 years old.
And I don't know how to restring it... Do you think I should be concerned about it snapping?

They need to bring back Doe days like they used to have. Of course with a bow you get the option to take a Doe here.
