Nute Lockout?
    #449531 - 07/21/10 07:42 PM (6 years, 4 months ago)

so my buddy gave me this female clone awhile back and ive been growing it for about 3 months outdoors. i'm pretty sure its just starting to flower. i'm using ffof soil and feeding it alaska brand fish emulsion every 2 weeks along with a dose of blackstrap molasses. the ph is around 6. could this be a nute lockout or possibly just a low ph? i dont think its an N deficiency. im using tap water right now and its ph is around 8. any help would be greatly appreciated

I s this affecting just your lower leaves??  Are these leaves that are not getting enough light??  Can we get some pictures of the whole plant??  And if you could please fill this out it would be much appreciated.

Soil Growers:
1. Are you growing from seed or clones?
2. How old are your plants?
3. How tall are your plants?
4. What size containers are they planted in?
5. What is your soil mix?
6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use?
7. What is the pH of your water?
8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio?
9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything?
10. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights")
11. How close are your lights to the plants?
12. What size is your grow space in square feet?
13. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space?
14. What is the pH of the soil?
15. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space?
16. How much experience do you have growing?

ya its just the lower leaves that are yellowing. there definitely not getting as much sun light as they probly should be. i have a water ph tester with drops and shit. i always measure both the runoff and water

1. Are you growing from seed or clones? clone
2. How old are your plants? 3.5 maybe?
3. How tall are your plants?almost 5 feet
4. What size containers are they planted in? 5 gallon
5. What is your soil mix? ffof
6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use? water about every other day with tap just because the ph is higher
7. What is the pH of your water? around 8
8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio? alaska brand fish emulsion with molasses
9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything? no
10. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights") sunlight
11. How close are your lights to the plants? n/a
12. What size is your grow space in square feet? big enough
13. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? it gets about 80 in the day not sure of the humidity
14. What is the pH of the soil? around 6
15. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? just minimal outdoor dweling bugs
16. How much experience do you have growing? noob

here are some more pics

I would bet that your pH is fucking you at this point.  You need to be balancing it before you feed straight tap water.  Are you checking it after you add your nutes??

pH Scale
Yea make sure you get your pH above 6 because it looks like your plant has a Nitrogen deficiency.

Or just increase your nutrients...

Light or nitrogen I would say. My tap water is at 8 also. I've been using it on plants in bags of soil for at least 15 years. Seems to be ok. Just keep checking the runoff and if it's ok the plant should be ok ph wise.

I also feed with tap water around that pH.

Looks to me like it just needs a good N-heavy fertilizer.

You mentioned your tap water is at 8, but you're using an acidic fertilizer (most are); which should theoretically help to balance the pH.  As Magash noted, you should test the pH of your overflow water (the water that runs out the bottom of the container after watering).  If the overflow is in the appropriate pH range, I wouldn't even fuss with pH up or down on your watering solution.  If you do start to use a pH up or down adjustment, make sure you use it in small increments and monitor the overflow water for at least a few days before making a more severe adjustment.

Honestly, your plant doesn't look too bad.  In my experience, the lower leaves on all maturing plants tend to die off to varying extent.  Since it appears that your plant is located near some walls, it is not unlikely that as Magash also noted, there is not enough of an abundance of light to support healthy growth from top to bottom.

ya i thought that using the water i do would raise the ph of the soil but its not really budging, its just sittin at around 6, possibly lower. the nutes i give it have a really low ph could that just be keeping the soils ph from raising?

Well if you have a whole heapin' of nutes saturating your soil then yes that will keep it pretty darn acidic.  However on the whole, your plant does not look like it is suffering from too many nutrients.

It looks like your plant is placed close to some fairly tall walls (unless you just moved it there for the picture).  If direct light doesn't make it to the lower branches of the plant, those leaves will naturally yellow and die off as well.

In short, if your problems only affect the very bottom of your plant and new growth/bud growth is continuing, I wouldn't stress over it.  Monitor your soil pH, provide adequate water and light, and you should be fine.  If you do make changes to your feeding regiment or pH adjust your water, do so in small increments and monitor the plant's response for at least 4 days before making another change.
