I've had these pics for about a year, was going to use them as insperation for a post apocalyptic role playing setting.

I just lost interest, post apoc tends to be pretty lame if you don't have a badass gaming group, which I don't.

Great pics though I think.

I saw a thing several years ago on it, if I remember right it still is way to active and they predicted it would be for along time(I want to say several decades but not sure)I see some plants can survive what had happened.

It's pretty safish to visit.

There are patches of active areas I think though.

Idk, I think it kinda made everyone running a nuclear power plant give a shit about safety.

A large portion is still active, that's why those pictures surprised me. They must be taken on the outskirts of the incident or something

I would love to visit.  There actually exists fungus within the old reactor which actually uses the radiation for energy.

Investigating further, the researchers measured the electron spin resonance signal after melanin was exposed to ionizing radiation and found that radiation interacts with melanin to alter its electron structure. This, they believe, is an essential step for capturing radiation and converting it into a different form of energy to make food. Until now, melanin's biological role in fungi - if any - had been a mystery. Interestingly, the melanin in fungi is no different chemically from the melanin in our skin, leading Casadevall to speculate that melanin could be providing energy to skin cells.

And radiation-munching fungi could be on the menu for future space missions. "Since ionizing radiation is prevalent in outer space, astronauts might be able to rely on fungi as an inexhaustible food source on long missions or for colonizing other planets," noted Dadachova.
