Maybe it's the scale of the picture, but those preflowers look pretty big to me. You'd think there would be a visible pistil on the calyx by now. Also, the one on the left has that lobster claw look to me. My eyes aren't the best and the pic is a little blurry, so zooming in wasn't too much help. But I did notice the oddity in that white box in the pic above.
I could be wrong, but that's why I said looks like and not definitely  If the OP could get a proper macro shot we'd know for sure.
