Well I wouldnt even consider any of those bands to be punk at all, I always considered blink-182 to be emo. I guess what other people would consider to be "pop-punk" I would consider to be emo.

I just never got into punk enough to go beyond the mainstream.

Cool genre because of the fact that many self produce their albums and shit.

Same reason I like nerdcore, maybe I will look into some punk beyond mainstream.

What bands would you suggest for starters?

My previous post for sure.

Bad Religion

Choking Victim / Leftöver Crack

The Clash (This is a necessity to appreciate a lot of punk music)

Rancid

Punk is pretty diverse, there are a lot of different sounds, and "fusion" genre's

I always liked Blink 182 and some of the other poppy punk bands. Sum 41 was a whole lot of fun

I much prefer real hard fast intense punk shit, but I have a special place in my heart for the others too haha.

Anyone remember when AFI was the shit? Talk about GREAT bands ending up fucking horrible...

Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

They were totally my favorite band right up through Sing the Sorrow. Sing the Sorrow made me think of them as a different band, but I still enjoyed their music for the most part. Then Decemberdunderground came out and it made me fucking HATE them.

As for the sub-divisions of punk...my favorite has gotta be "oi", aka street punk.

I'm also pretty into tuff-guy hardcore (Terror, Death Before Dishonor, Madball, etc...). I used to rep FSU a little in the local crew. Never got too far into it, but I knew all the boys. Drank 40s with them at shows, went around with some of em on weekends. Ya know. Was gonna get inked with one of them, but never got around to it. Maybe if the venue hadn't shut down I would have gotten further into it.

I think the same about almost all rock music.  I listen to Reggae and rap 90% of the time.
