Electrical Question
    #417954 - 05/14/10 05:32 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I'm probably moving into a new apartment at the end of the month but new is hardly a word to describe it.
What I love about it is that it's got a huge basement that's got its own sink and three of those little basement windows going to the outside.

The only problem is that there's only 3 three pronged outlets down there, two for washer/dryer and 1 that's on the other side of the garage that someone definitely installed them self. The third one says on the outlet plate that it's 125 watts but I don't know if that's just the faceplate or what.

How do I safely set up a source of power for my growing needs.
I'm running two bubble buckets, a 150w HPS, a 90w t5, and obviously all the other electrical appliances I'll be needing like fans and whatnot. \

I'm also going to have to build a small grow room down there since it's all just a large room. Apparently the floor will get damp if there's a lot of rain.

watts? you mean volts?

honestly i wouldnt touch it.

i wouldnt grow in that place unless i ran a wire from the box to the lighting area itself

its just too risky i think

i mean how old are we talking about?>

What if I traced the existing wire from the outlet to the box, would that tell me how many volts I can run from it?
What happens if you go over that?

its a 120 volt outlet

watts dont matter here...dont push it but 150 watts is nothing to shake a stick at

120 volts is the US standard for your outlets..and 240 is standard in europe n what have you

if you trace it back and you see no cracks in the wiring, the wiring isnt run straight through like insulation
and it looks like its been connected at both ends correctly then sure why not use it

just be sure. and dont get electrocuted.

This outlet looks newly rigged and there's a 2 tube 6' floro plugged into it to light that side of the basement that works fine.

What's the most I should plug into this thing. I can always have the accessories run off extension cords plugged into other outlets.

if you feel comfortable and it sounds like its new wiring and theyre strict on the wiring nowdays i was worried it was back in the day where someone may have cut a corner to make a few dollars

But PERSONALLY I still wouldn't go over like 1000 watts or so
