Would you buy an HDTV, or High Def Projector?

Tough decision :strokebeard:

but how often do they burn out? I don't mind if it costs that much as long as I can get a good two years out of it....

Hell, I pay $100 for HPS bulbs and those are only good for a year

His burnt out like a week after he got it, but the projector wasn't new so I really couldn't tell you to be honest.

I ended up buying a projector and it is real nice and fun to show off but I regret not getting a tv.

The projector isn't that usable during the day unless you have a fairly dark room to watch it in.

Right now I'm saving up to get a 56inch lcd while I watch pretty much everything on my oldschool 32inch tube tv.

Don't get me wrong, I loved owning newbs at Gears of War on my 9foot screen, but mostly it sits in the corner collecting dust.

p.s. My bulb is 6 years old and hasn't burnt out

That's what I was gonna say.

Projectors can be a lot of fun, provided you use them enough to justify the price and get a good enough unit that is bright enough and is actually comparable to a TV.  Research around, check consumer reports, etc...

I'd personally get a projector if you have a good room for it... Dark with a big flat white wall.

Good point about it being dark n shit.  Wow that's a long time for a bulb.

hmm.... my house has quite a few windows in almost every room. plus, I wouldn't really want to have to close all the windows to watch tv during the day... that would make me feel like too much of a recluse. If I had a basement I think it would be a no brainer.

Is the resolution comparable to the LCD? Flat screen TV's are so freaking brilliant looking, I have a hard time imagining a projector comparing to that...

Yah, I treat everything I buy like a Fabergé egg.

I'm 100% sure intensity isn't anywhere as good as when I first bought it but honestly I don't even notice.

Lot's of good times with my projector. Watching 100ft porn on the side of buildings, LOL.

I'd still take the tv.

You can get a nice 1080i projector and a nice 32 - 37" LCD 1080p TV all for under $1000

I paid ~ $400 for each and that was well over a year ago

Well I'm talking like 55" LCD TV. I want a big TV if I drop some cash on it, I'm sick of my tiny ass tv and not even being able to see the strikezone when I try to watch baseball.

But seriously, how's the picture of a good projector compare to a nice 1080P LCD TV?

The pictures on the newer projectors are excellent.

Thing is you would be comparing the same resolution at different size scales. The tv would look better.

Some more pros and cons.

Tv you can turn on and off.

Projectors should be warmed up and need time to cool down.

You are constantly adjusting the picture on a projector. Focusing it and changing the dimensions(like when it turns on it's shaped like a trapezoid and you need to make it square).

If your using a screen and have a fan on its always fluttering the screen.

Tv can be set in a corner or on a wall.

Projectors have wires running all around the room because they project from the center or behind to the screen that is in front.

Hidden cost of the projector= you need to buy all the crazy priced cords that go along with it. Also you need a reciever and speakers if you actually want sound to go along with what you watching.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll post more when I think of them.
