hELP!!! LOSING MY PLANT
    #358371 - 02/06/10 09:53 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Ok so this is my first time growing in a bubble hydro system. I have a HUGE purp plant that was doing spectacular and had huge sticky buds already into the 3rd week of flowering about 2 days ago i looked in the bucket to check on the ph and i noticed the water looked stagnant. Then later on in the day the leaves started drooping. i was thinking it was either over watering, nute burn, or some kind of disease.

I quickly emptied the stagnant water and found that my aerator was busted and not sending bubbles to all the roots so i went out and bought a new one hooked it up, put some fresh water in there and left it over night.

In the morning i noticed there was some light brown slime on the roots which i carefully cleaned off in a few different buckets of water. once it was cleaned off and put in fresh water the plant still didnt look any better so i started doing some research and in looked like the the same symptoms as a plant that was drowning/over watered so i emptied out the water again and let it sit damp for the day.

The first couple of hours it looked like a lot of the smaller leaves were starting to perk up. I was getting hopeful that this would fix the problem but as more time went by the plant started looking worse again and all the leaves were once again drooping. i put 2 more gallons of water with light nutrients (afraid it might still be a nutrient overdose) so only part of the roots were submerged in the water and the aerator directly underneath the root bunch.

When i got up this morning the leaves didn't just look droopy they are looking wilted and sad. Thinking it may be some disease i added some H2O2 but after that i've exhausted all the solutions i can read about if this doesn't work i fear for the worst.

If the leaves are starting to wilt but the stems still feel strong does that mean my baby's finished? what can i do?

Down here are some before and after photo's two of the whole plant and two of the buds

i dont know much about aero systems but the plants do look like they've been overwatered and maybe a little bit of a nitrogen deficiency but you can expect that coming into harvest time

It takes time for a plant to recover sometimes.

oh boy, that plant is looking bad..... the slime on your roots is a huge pain in the ass that I've dealt with myself multiple times. I recommend H2O2, more H2O2, and maybe some prayers

If the plant perks up every time you take the roots out of water that is where you need to start looking. You need to use a bigger air pump or whatever but you need to get more oxygen in the water cause as the plants get bigger (that includes bud mass) the oxygen needs are gonna increase.

alright, about what you read on overwatering... this is a deep water culture system. your roots are meant to be submerged under water. you however are responsible to provide adequate air to your roots so they don't drown.

products to help combat slime = hydrozym and Dutchmaster Zone. I can't speak for hydrozym but if you use Zone you should use the high end of the recommendation which is 12ml/5gals.

Temperatures are also very very important especially now given your situation. You want your temps to be 68-70F and not to exceed 74F ever. I'm willing to bet you're exceeding 74F as you've got slime and even without a working pump I've yet to see slime when optimal temperatures are maintained.
