Tonto Natural Bridge in Arizona
    #343967 - 01/09/10 10:34 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Just went hiking out to this state park that they are about to close here, and it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in nature.

I took some pics while I was out there too:

Here are two more pictures; the first is fully zoomed in to capture these two hikers, and the second I pulled all the way back from the same angle...you can still see the hikers if you look at the very center of the picture and then slightly down and to the left.  That gives some idea of the size of this thing.

yeah...Statewide budget cuts are resulting in the closing of 8 parks/monuments.  It blows; especially if you see this park.

That's so fucking gay.  All the parks in MN that I used to have to pay to get into are now free as of a few years ago...

That looks like a SICK place to eat some mushrooms and smoke a ton of herb

That's awesome that you made it out there. We tried to go around August of 2009 and it was closed

When are they permanently closing it?

I cant wait to get up to Payson here in about a month when it warms up a bit more

that is horrible!

they are talking about closing down all the state beach parks and campgrounds in california for budget cuts. damn bastards already raised state university tuition a whopping 30%, and community college tuition by 20% ... assholes, killing everything that is good for the past several decades.

I mean if you really wanted to get somewhere you could, you would just probably have to park far away and do it all on foot

Im going to have to look into what other Arizona parks are closing. This definitely blows

The national parks are a business and beaucracy just like any other.  Anyone seen the Ken Burns series, the national parks?  Epic.  Looks like an interesting place to explore, for sure.

I could be wrong but I think they are closing it due to safety reasons. I believe I read that the land bridge is deteriorating and they dont have the funding to make the necessary improvements to make it "safe"

That may be part of it, but there are 7 other parks that are closing too.  Either way it sucks.

I was thinking that it would be cool to just hump it in on foot once they're closed.  All of those parks would make for great parties!  Do I hear "growery gathering?"

We actually have the Shroomery gathering between Pine and Strawberry :crazy2:

I would be down to go camping or hiking here in about a month or so when it warms up a bit. Verde River area FTW

We should make Growery gatherings, wouldn't be too hectic considering we have such little users.
