Spores are illegal in some states. I think cultivation of mushies has only gotten big in the last 10 years or so.

Which is the same reason why most states can't grow hemp.  Really the wording of the law, unlike that of mushrooms, makes all parts of the cannabis plant illegal.

I want someone to explain to me why the people in the government are allowed to make laws that serve no beneficial purpose. (re: outlawing nature).

Nobody can explain that.

Perhaps it is our responsibility, but we live in a largely apathetic society right now.  The gov't has given us television and internet, and most of society just rolls over. In this thread, you're just as guilty as the next guy, you've been allowed to vent in a friendly atmosphere, and I'd wager that's as far as you'll take it.  Maybe you'll talk to your friends about it, but nobody protests anymore, nobody takes action.
We live in the era of a war that has gone on longer and taken more lives than Vietnam, and how many national newsworthy demonstrations have you seen? How many marches on the capitol? How much dissent anywhere other than the polls on the news, or rants on the internet?
