Phish Festival 8!
    #302866 - 10/24/09 01:52 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

So one week from now I will be in Cali for probably the highlight of my year. For those who don't know, Phish will be putting on their first festival since getting back together. It will be at the Empire polo fields in Indio California.

Is anyone else going? I am flying in from a far off state and decided on a hotel package. Camping would be fun but its not in the cards this time.
It is going to be my first trip to the west coast and I am pumped about sampling the best of Cali.

Phish + Halloween + Harvest Season = ????

Nice!

That's interesting actually.....I am waiting to purchase my tickets for an upcoming show. Though it will be indoors and not a 3 day or more festival.  I got up at 3am this morning to drive 2 hrs to the ticket office to get a "raffle" bracelet. They are gonna draw a number and sell the tickets in sequential order after that number. Guess they can only fit 8,000 in where the concert is at. Wish me luck!

Enjoy the festival in cali. I went to their last big festival in Coventry, Vermont.(the last show before they "retired") It was an experience of a lifetime to say the least...I will carry it with me the rest of my life.

Coventry was a disaster but a very significant experience for many. I went to IT which was the fest a few years before. Many consider it their last real fest because of how everything went down at Coventry. Im looking forward to this fest being on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. It is plush and comfy, no mud or traffic. I think it shows how both the band and fans have matured. Many of us are older now and the years of carefree touring are behind us. Its nice to be able to hit a fest but at the same time stay in a resort, hit the pools in the morning or grab a few holes of golf before heading down to the grounds.

One of the nicest things about the hotel im at is the 24 hour shuttle to and from the grounds.

Shpongled

Well yeah ...I see where you're coming from. They were a little off.  The last set was pretty emotional. I think it was such an experience for me because at the time I thought it was the last show I would see.

So you were actually at coventry?

What do you think of JOY

Celine Deon probably is better than Phish. But ok if you want me to give examples of who is better and has more talent. The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Radio Moscow, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, The Flaming Lips, The Beatles, Rage Against The Machine, The Doors, Sublime, The Brain Jonestown Massacre, The Dig Angees, etc.

Phish untalented? Uhhhhh, gonna call bullshit on that one. Not a fan really of them, but to call them untalented is just a crock of shit.

At any rate, would love to attend this if it wasn't 1,200 miles away.

I don't know, I think you're assuming a lack of talent out of not liking their style of music. I mean, they're clearing all very technically skilled at their respective instruments; if you don't call that some degree of talent, then I don't know what talent is. Care to elaborate on their untalentedness instead of leaving it at a matter of opinion?

Shitty "bro" music....lol. I might agree that DMB or Ben Harper are kinda "bro" but Phish is a completely different scene. Either way there really is no need for you to keep arguing. We get it, you don't like "bro" music whatever that might be. Thanks for the input in my thread. I came back excited to see 19 replies, only to find this.

  Trip gone crazy!

I'm  sooooo envious shpongled!  I've been listening to a series on Sirius radio (Jam on) called Phish's festivalography.  It's basically band members talking about all the festivals they've done over the years.  I WISH i would have been at Big Cypress or IT.  Did you see them play on the tower with the dancers dangling down syched up to the music (vice versa actually)?  Hey trip if we ever meet this will be a topic of discussion mane!  Phish is THE most innovative live band of the last quarter century!  No one else does what they do for a live show.

Oh I will also add that that place will probably hold over a quarter million people.  I saw Madonna open up for tool there in 2006 (coachella) and it was a fucking mad house i tell you.  Madonna was cool just cause the crowd and i was high as  a kite.  But after she finished up the 100k people that were watching her all went across the campus to the main stage where tool played.  it was nuts!  I'm sure phish will be amazing out there.  plus it's not goign to be 120 degrees for you guys like it was for us.  Have fun!

FurrowedBrowM: Yea I was at IT for the tower jam. They had other fests on the same air force base and there were always rumors that they would play on the tower. IT was no different, people were talking about it and others were scoffing. The tower jam was completely unannounced and when the first few notes wafted through the grounds no one knew what was going on. Once the lights hit the tower we all began to realize what was happeneing.....truly magic.

From Urban dictionary -

It's an expantion of jock-rock which is the male parallel to the boy band; any music that causes "Bros" to enter a state of wild abandon, swinging their arms violently, spilling beer and lip-syncing every lyric perfectly, essentially causing them to act like club-girls.

Examples of Bro-Bands include Blues Traveler, Dave Mathews, The Dispatch, James Blunt, O.A.R., and others.
"It's like they've turned Madison Square Garden into a giant frat house."
"Well what did you expect? They're a Bro band."

I've never heard this term either.  It means nothing to me, and that's all I care about.

Good music is good music.  Some people express their jubilation and other emotions transferred to them from the music in various ways.  Some people dance and other people just feel.

Dude Trip, we all get it that you don't like them, neither do I!

But you are crossing the line here saying a lot of things that you are.

I could come into your "Beatles" thread and start calling them talentless, because I really dislike them, but I don't because I respect your love for them.

Obviously they are as famous as they are because they have talent, same goes with Phish.  I HATE both of them though so i'll be the one to GTFO of his thread out of respect for him and his interests.

You could have gotten your point across after 1 or 2 posts but you continued to treat this thread like you are in the dome.  Careful man stoney is gonna banana your ass.  I like you, I just don't see what's happening here...

Stoney already did banana my ass. I havent insulted him or phish once when I came back. If I get banned again I dont see why. All I'm saying is dont say that "I called you intolerant" when I didnt. I would encourage anyone to try to critisize the beatles or any of the bands I like. Critisisim is part of music. I dont get hurt when someone tells me they dont like a band I like. I have said multiple times in this thread that I have my opinions and he has his. And I dont really care. But then you people keep bringing it up. I'm done with this thread. Stoney dont ban me I'm not even going to come back in to this thread.

Back on topic!

The Sirius channel Jam On will be broadcasting this festival.  I think in it's entirety.  God just hearing them talk about it made me want to get a ticket and head down there.  I WILL be listening to this all day and night.   So i will be with you in spirit.

shpongled, you and I got off on the wrong foot. I realize that I was wrong in saying "phish sucks" I'm just glad that you like music. music arguements just piss me off sometimes. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has them. So check your ratings.

hey shpongled, im sure you are gone now.  I am going to listen to the festival on Jam on tonight starting at 8:30 my time.  I will write some of my thoughts here so when you come back it may help you reflect on your experience there.  I can't wait to hear it all played out!
