i went out today and bought a $20 mic, only to try it out at home and the replay quality is warped and it sounds like the speaker is underwater. which is pretty disappointing. any ideas on what could be wrong?
i was getting very excited to add some tunes to this thread

just a sound recorder on the start-up menu. any recommendations for a program?

You could try Audacity
it's a very functional sound editing program.
I use WireTap on my mac it's amazingly simple and works well.
