Tap water ph fluctuations
    #235521 - 06/02/09 10:58 AM (14 years, 9 months ago)

So I'm only able to use tap water right know and it comes out the tap @7.2.
I'm using Biobizz nutes and worm castings and its all bubbled overnight
problem is next morning the ph is 8.5:thumbdown:
What causes the wild ph jump?
Right now I'm correcting the ph with vinegar until I get my ph down
Thanks for any responses.
Also shortly I'm going DWC using GH 3part hardwater nutes using the lucas formula so hopefully this won't be a problem any longer but correct me if I'm wrong please.

I think it's the nutes.

Water where i am is like 5.5 bordering on 6 after adding Bio-Grow it is in the 6.5-6.8 area.

OK sorry
I should have put this down in the first place
I've run tests and plain tap water bubbled in 24 hours
reaches 8.5 its actually better with my nutes added first
it only reaches 7.6, still I'm adding at least 2ml's of
vinegar. I'm fairly sure my plants are  not digging all
the  acid although they are doing heaps better than when I
wasn't adding the acid.

Not as stoned now.

I to use tap water. At 1st it was 8.5 out of the tap. Today it was 7.Something to do with the water dept here.

I to have had water jump from a low pH to a higher pH the next day, also use air stone. No clue for way it does this. My remedy for this is to take 8 gal's of water(just a tub I had) and adjust pH until it stabilizes. Usually 48 hours, sometimes 72 hours but after adding nutes need to adjust pH before feeding plants.

Maybe the tap water is just stabilizing after coming out of a larger system.

If anyone has info let us know.

If you can afford the nutes you can get the right stuff to correct the ph. Stop with the vinegar plants hate it. Just cause something can be used doesn't mean it should.

It's in the post(ordered it as soon as I
could and am still waiting for it to arrive)
unfortunately I'm not around a hydro shop and
have to order online and sit here and wait
so vinegar has been the only remedy.
Still wondering though what pulls the ph up
so high?

I believe the worm castings, I can't speak from experience as I always use my worm castings dry and not as a tea. You could easily see how acidic those biobizz nutrients are with a small dilution (whatever your dosage is) then testing with litmus strips or a meter.

The technique you're using with like a pot of water, your solid nutrients, and a bubbler is typically used for N hot stuff like Guano/guano based nutrients to not lower the pH and to make the pH more stable by distributing the guano evenly throughout the solution. If you used a alkaline nutrient you would expect your pH to get more alkaline as time would lapse. I don't do this but I know Jorge cervantes covers this in his movie and likely book. I've also read a post by Bushyoldgrower on ICMAG about this which was advised by Subcool when using bat guano fertilizer to deal with it's high N profile.

SubCool taught me to premix my earth juice bloom 20 hours in advance to reduce its acidity and this has helped me feed more without burning them.
