My dad showed me this poll thing. Idk what it was, but it showed that more people voted for Bob Barr than McCain in California.

I do not understand how Arnold became the governor of Cali when he is a Republican. I mean yea he is awesome, but still.
Maybe people were just scared NOT to vote for him.

well, as ezekiel said, he had some humorous competition.
you may or may not have heard, but there was a huge energy crisis in california in like 2000-2003 and a lot of people were really pissed how energy companies were fucking people over and whatnot. so they wanted grey davis out.

his lieutenant governor cruz bustamante would have been catastrophic for california. he did not have the necessary financial restraint.
so enter gary coleman, cruz bustamante, arnold, tom mcclintock, and a porn star (my i-net is slow, so i can't find out her name). well, as we all know, name recognition in politics is key. arnold had it more than anybody. and with successful celebrity-leadership from jesse ventura in montana, and arnold's backing of the kennedy clan (maria shriver his wife), he could hardly lose.
bustamante was a failure. tom mcclintock would have been the best choice, but unfortunately arnold had the name, and it was more prudent to elect arnold than cruz, rather than have cruz beat them both.
enter arnold, governator.
