Getting to be that time! Harvesting
    #79147 - 07/11/08 11:35 AM (15 years, 8 months ago)

My buds are starting to get to a decent size, I figure another week or two max. How do I know when to pick them? Do I rip the whole plant down? I've heard stuff about hanging them upside down and all that. I've been searching around but have found so many mixed answers. What do you guys do? This is my first time growing.

Cut them in to manageable lengths and manicure them straight away, it's a lot easier to do when they are fresh and the leaves are standing out.  manicuring after they've dried is a complete pain in the ass.  hanging them to dry is the easiest way and stops the buds from becoming flattened out which is what happens if you dry them on on their sides.

You need a decent magnifying device and you need to know how to harvest according to trichome color.

that's the one that most people use.  You need a pretty steady hand and a good light source (i use a little flashlight) to get a good look though.  I usually just end up chopping a bud i think is ready and looking at it on a table, it's a lot easier that way.

I'm sure there's a better model out there, but, if you don't want to spend much or have to order from somewhere special, this will work just fine.

Is there one of those trichome harvesting guides here on the site?  The ones with the macro pics of clear, cloudy and amber trichomes.

Is overwatering/root rot a valid concern when 1-2 weeks from harvest? I want to flush it good, but I don't wanna kill it....

root rot is mainly a concern for hydro growers, although it can occur in soil.  I flush my plants about 3-4 times in their last two weeks with no problems.
