Hey I have a 50w hps setup it was free so i cant complain but i want to know if it will even be worth using it since its so low wattage currently i am vegging with 180w of fluorescent and i was thinking of maybe adding 80w of fluorescent light with the 50w hps in my budding box. what do you think waiste of energy and time to use the 50w. also was wondering how close i can have the light to the plants it puts out barely any heat
Definitely add it in with as many fluoro's as you can. 180 Actual watts or equivalent? It's actually more energy efficient. An HPS will put out more Lumens for every Watt it uses than any Fluorescent, except maybe HO or VHO T-5's which come close.
I hope this helps. I use an HPS/Fluoro combo...

I took a picture of my veg lighting for my flower box i was thinking of taking out the 2 4ft fluros and position it vertically along with the hps in another box to flower and ya 180 alittle over actually but w/e
I have a 150w hps bulb and it fits in the 50w setup but im afraid to turn it on lol im guessing though its a bad idea or can a ballast be overdsriven and run higher watt
You'd have to check the specs on the ballast. Probably not bud...
You can pick up an E-conolight and remote ballast it. 42 bucks for a 150 and you can follow an easy DIY that has already been made. If you end up doing this I'll link you to what you need. (www.e-conolite.com)
I keep my 150 about 4 inches from my tops. Any less and I burn.
