Yea, I don't even DJ and I said wtf at that comment. Nothing like some old funk vinyls mixing with some hip hop beats.

heh, yah.  Diggers wouldn't even dignify that statement with anything else but a laugh.  CD/MP3 makes music cheaper, easier to transport, and it can be replaced a lot easier then vinyl.  But nothing compares to that nice, warm analog sound and the feeling of the record underneath your fingertips.  I've spun records, i've spun cd's, i've used final scratch, and to me nothing beats cold hard wax when it comes to gigs.

Does the timecoded vinyl sound any better than just CD's would you say?

Re: Vinyl [Re: Ombient]

no, in fact i think it sounds worse because MP3 files are crap compared to the original recordings.  But that's just me, im sure the majority of people wouldn't notice the difference unless the file was garbage.  Final scratch is neat, but goddamn is it a PITA to use.  I've owned for years now and the only time i use it is when i play house parties.  I don't want to pay money for hip hop and top 40 records so i just download MP3 to keep the masses happy.

Live, nah, nothing big. Maybe in production. Depends what softwarte you're using with the time-coded vinyl.

Analog is hard to define as a sound. But you know it when you hear it.

All todays CD's dont have any real dynamic range (quiet and loud in contrast) and are cranked cutted off the low and high ends.

MP3's ripped from CD's are crap.

Vinyl to MP3 is as good as anything. 320 VBR sounds as good as lossless to me. I have a pair of monitor/studio speakers (Yamaha MSP10's and a custom sub) and very good hearing (for now). Other than that I agree with you completely.

Final Scratch is great for live shows, where there will inherently be more than enough distortion that any digital noise will be negated.

yah, but in the end 99% of the MP3 files out there are not vinyl rips.  But, when you transcode an analog source to a digital file, you're effectively losing all the aweseomeness you get with a record.  Digital means on and off, there is no inbetween, so you lost some of the "warm" tones caused by distortion when you ripped it.  The difference is negligible though, i think the only way you'd be able to tell is with a side by side comparison.

yah, it's great until it crashes on you during the middle of a set.  Or if it doesn't like an mp3 file.  Not to mention the feed back you can get if it's not grounded properly.  It's a great idea, but in the end i would rather play cd's because they're more reliable and there's no setup involved.

True but I try to find many o those 1% of vinyl to mp3 and they still sound good. IMO digital only sounds bad when it's cranked up so you lose the dynamics.

Final Scratch crashing hasn't happened to me, yet. But I have an mp3 player that I can fail over too if there is any technical issues.

never said they didn't.  Going from FLAC to MP3 isn't all that bad either.

FS hated all my laptops, i mean every single one of them.  I've used every single release of FS, the last one they did has been my favorite because you don't have to partition the hard drive.  My back up is vinyl, but it still sucks when you're in the middle of a mix and all of a sudden all you hear is just this nasty screeching sound.
