 Snipping an entire

I have two plants that are really suffering from lack of direct light. The fan leaves are dying and the stems of the plants are very soft.
It might be hard to remove both pots from my setup because of rooting.
If I just snipped both plants and left the stumps in the pots, would the plant die or would it just keep trying to grow?

I have done this by growing a couple plants in one container. so when males showed up i killed them and flowered the other ones. But their is some say about roots roting in the soil. I took the chance and ended up with good mj
I did just cut them off at the dirt .

I've heard you can re-veg a stump as long as it has a few leaves left on it. I might try that... not to re-veg but just to keep it going.

Depending on how big it is, it could use a bit more than a couple of leaves to survive.

Well one of the plants has now completely collapsed...
They're both about 30-45cm (12-18in) tall.
  
This is the one that's still standing.
What should I do?

Ive had to revive stressed plants from time to time...
After a certain point i give up and toss em...i just tossed at least an oz from some stuff that got way too burned without water and 140+ temps.
Sometimes they could survive, but i dont like to take my chances with overly stressed plants turnin hermie on me.

I just pulled the pots out. Alas, some of their roots are still tangled in the flood basin. I added some more subculture today, so that should help take care of root rot.
