I bought a 400 watt hps from htg supply .I was wondering if i can use a metal hylide in the fixture it doesn't say magnetic on the ballast anywhere .I'll try to post a pic of the light and ballast if i can get the camera to work.

If you can't get the camera to work, you could just post a link to the ballast in question.

No you can not put a metal halide bulb in it. You can get a conversion bulb, but there is really no point. Just use HPS the whole way through.

And yes that is a magnetic ballast.
