yeah, i'm just saying if you have good self-control with drugs you can still use opiates and the like and not get nasty withdrawls.

The problem with self control is you don't get to use the drugs as much as I want to :D

If you're one of those who use opiates strictly for pain control, then yes - you can get by without addiction.

If we're talking recreation, and this board focuses on that aspect most of the time, then it's Habit City.

true but with self-control you possibly save yourself from developing a nasty habit down the road.

as andy said

when taking for pain you can stay away from habitual use when using recreationally you basically start with habitual use...

not really.  I use opiates maybe 2 or 3 times a month at the most.  Maybe for some people but that is not the universal pattern of opiate use sorry.

I don't believe that to be true.  I'm prescribed 75mg of oxy a day.  I'm sure those levels are sufficient to cause addiction.

So why don't you consider yourself addicted?

I'm  not an expert on opiate addiction but I know at least mentally you'll get more addicted taking 80mg of oxy in one go than taking 8mg 10 times a day for pain.

I also believe taking 80mg in one go is more addictive on a chemical level but I'm not sure and this isn't based on any scientific proof.

usually 20mg oxycodone, i know thats not very high but due to the infrequency of my opiate indulgences i dont have much if any of a tolerance and have never felt the need to do anymore than that.

I probably am by now.  I've been on prescribed opiates since may 10th.

I'd sure I'm addicted by now but I'm not going to stop taking them just to see if I get the shakes and start shitting my pants

When the time comes I'll be weaned off slowly and withdrawals won't be much of an issue at all

low doses like that won't build your tolerance very fast that's like someone who smokes less than a gram of weed a day... there not going to need much more for the same effects.

it's people who do say 40mg their first weekend then score 80 or 120 the next weekend to do throughout the night that get high tolerances and addicted ;p

I suppose I'm agreeing with you.

... and if things do get rough, there's always LF's Opiate Recovery TEK (he referred to it as Getting Off Heroin without pain or some shit).

weening off gradually is the only painless way to get off opiates imo.

I remember that shit.  What a joke.  I do know that i can get by on 20mg of codeine twice a day when I run out of oxy so I can't be too bad at this stage.  I know someone who needs 1000mg of codeine a day just to stay well.

yeah its not hard to see how habitual abuse and building a high tolerance can lead to an addiction problem.  That's why i'm extra careful with opiates.  They are an occasional treat rather than a drug i rely on like ganja.
