You want females.  You could get some going now, find out which is female, take clones and that way by spring you’ll have 12 known females to grow out instead of just rolling the dice with seed and having some of the 12 turn out male.

You start them indoors under fluorescents (or LEDs, or whatever you choose) to give them a head start so when spring rolls around you’ve bypassed the whole infant stage and they’re well on their way.

A window will keep a plant alive, but don't expect much growth from it.  Since you are wanting to take 12 clones, you'll need to grow a decent sized plant.  For that you'll want either HID or LED.

Instead of cloning one plant, it would be better to plant more seeds and get a few different females, in case one of them is shit.  I like to use my outdoor grows to pheno hunt since the light is free.

It's more cost effective in the long run to buy LED, but only if you choose quality diodes.  A high end DIY LED build would cost you about $1 per watt, but you can build them cheaper with the less efficient diodes.  For your situation I would recommend a strip build with bridgelux eb gen2 strips.  You'll probably want at least a 2x4 space.  Another option would be 2 qb96 elite v2 boards.  This is what I am currently using.

Now that I think about it though, you may want to consider autos.  I'm not sure what your season's like, but most of my plants this year didn't finish in time.  It took me a while to find a strain with an early flowering characteristic.
