Actually the only hardware I have for this right now is a computer and a microphone.

Im going to get a MIDI controller and a couple other things as soon as I have enough money to blow.

Id like to start using hardware asap. Then ideas would really take off.

I reinstalled FL 9 the other day and started to fuck around with it again. Installed a SC Pro-1 VST.

Make some noise

Cool, what kind of music are you interested in making?

I recommend changing the default skin (the look really makes a difference imo)

I also recommend getting a few non fruity synths but That freeware synth looks korny...

Fruity Sytrus is beast I love it!
Some of the others are good as well.(Included in FL)

If you dont know the basics of sound generation yet then I recommend reading a little because it will really help you make certain sounds you might be lookin for instead of using presets...

post anything cool you might make here so I could check em out:vaped:...
Soundcloud helps with that.

Good luck!

:awehigh:

Thanks for the advice :stoned:

I have these books on PDF right now:
Electronic Music - Systems, Techniques, and Controls by Allen Strange
Hewitt - Music Theory for Computer Musicians (Cengage, 2008)
Theory and Techniques of Electronic Music-Miller Puckette
Composition_for_Computer_Musicians
Composing Digital Music For Dummies

Any specific ones you would recommend?

I will be working on this on and off, I just need to open my wallet enough to let myself buy a good keyboard controller to get a little more serious.

Also The Korg Kaossilator Pro and Koasspad seem like they could keep me occupied for hours.

But as to your question "Cool, what kind of music are you interested in making?"

:justdontknow:

I figure I will do what comes naturally, I'd like it to be semi-danceable but also play on the senses as much as possible. This is really just a jumping off point, I know a lot of really talented guitarist and drummers, and I'd like to collab with them and make some good music, and most of these guys aren't really pro's when it comes to computers and such.

sounds good,
I actually dont have any books, I use google and just read from there, plus listening to A LOT of music all the time and just messing around with the software helps...

Kaos pads looks awesomely fun Ive never tried one though, the kaossolator is more of a synth and the kaos pad is more of an effects processor, they even have miniature ones for cheaper.

once you learn the basics of the software, and understand a little on how music works, ideas will flow.
youtube has Hundreds of FL studio tutorials that are very helpful.
heres a few pages.
http://www.youtube.com/user/imageline
http://www.youtube.com/user/nfxbeats
http://www.youtube.com/user/AcePincter

Then you could collab with your friends and record some of their instruments using the Edison plugin if you have mics.
then add your own stuff too it, like an electro acoustic band... that would cool.

I've learned a lot about the programs functionality, the hardest part is still the musical side of things. I may have something up in a couple days if I can avoid distractions.

:awehigh:

Overall I'm liking this a lot though. I needed an outlet and I'm a pretty shitty visual artist.

I came across these thought you might like to know:

Heres a brief guide to mixing in general that could give you a better idea of whats going on def help you out to make everything sound better no matter what program you use.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/11995844/Guide-to-Mixing

and this guy has a series of long tutorials explaining FL studio basics to advanced hidden tools and secrets on how to make things that may seem difficult easier and sound better...
(Beginner to pro series) which hes still adding on to...
http://www.youtube.com/user/ste1438#g/c/C3D379DDADD57721

Also Im finishing up a kickin track I got goin right now! :awehigh:
I cant wait till its done im so OCD about the final sound.

Thanks mucho.

My problem is my ADD. I'm the kind of person who has everything going at once and takes awhile to get shit done without motivation.

As long as I feel like I'm improving constantly I will keep at it.

I have like 6 big projects open.
:ugh: too ocd to finish them, I need feedback cuz I dont have studio monitors to check the levels of sound correctly, but they sound good in my opinion, hopefully I could get somethin up soon.

How it goinz with yoo?
I would love to collaborate once you get it down.

Here's an awesome series on the basic theory of Subtractive sound synthesis that I've been reading lately.

Well I finally ended up saving enough extra $ for a small synth/MIDI.

The Novation X-Station

I like it... I got it for under $200 used on ebay.

I'll be doing more stuff since it's gonna be changing to winter soon and I've also learned quite a lot of things since the last post.

Heres one for now... Ambient/Krautrock style.

Trying out Reaper also ATM...
