Just because you're at a bar or club doesn't mean you have to drink man.
Go shoot pool hang out and meet some people.
That's the best way I know, unless you're into staking, then you could check out the stake parks.

Unfortunately for you, you're not going to find very much progress sitting on the computer asking for advice. Speak to someone - who looks like they smoke - as a gentleman and politely ask if they can help you out. As long as you're not being shady somebody will eventually give you a hand.
