The Perseids meteor shower comes every August. It should be visible between August 8th and 14th. They say it peaks around the 11th and 12th. You still have time.

And it is NNE - N, about 1/3 of the way up the horizon... so look slightly East of directly north at about a 30 - 45 degree angle and you'll see about 1 per minute, at times up to 2.
Edit: I forgot, it's just left of the Casseopia constellation. the one that looks like a crooked W. Occurring from 12 - 5 AM.
