Ahh yes - a band I never listen to.

However, I have a couple of songs by the band Tools You Can Trust.
They're from the 80's, so you probably won't know them.

I like some of Tool's stuff, but I honestly couldn't distinguish that album from a pile of my own steaming hot feces.

With reviews like that, you have to wonder why people buy their albums and attend their concerts.

Must be for the drug supply (i.e. Grateful Dead).

I read that for like 30 secs and gave up
I know for myself it was a good move on the bands part
it's not like the music went from strange to weird , if anything it got more meaningful , more understanding to those who love that sound

I don't really listen to tool too much, the alternative/progressive rock sound reminds me too much of radio station rock & my middle school days (when music taste was subpar to say the least).

But Alex Grey associates himself with them through his art so they must be good right? :justdontknow:

They have some good songs. But the lyrics are crazy deep that's all I know, I respect the guy's ability as a lyricist if not the music itself. Definitely where the "psychedelic" aspect to this band lies.

I shall have to download and listen to that album, just out of curiosity.

I do not expect to enjoy it.

dude. if you haven't heard AENIMA. get it. and if someone out there does not appreciate that album as a whole, jesus there must be something wrong with them. I have friends who don't like their new stuff etc, but they love aenima and the early years.
it's gotta be my fav too.

You actually might like them.

Listen to 'parabola', that's a good song. Pretty much one of the only ones I know by them :stoned:

I remember having to skip literally every other song on that album. It was a bunch of good songs, interspersed with awful filler. Anyone who likes good drumming should be able to appreciate Lateralus though.

Definitely. Lateralus is to Tool as the Black Album is to Metallica. Even people who don't like the band can genereally enjoy it.

no it isn't . AENIMA is .

some people just don't understand. the fillers in aenima are what make the album whole. .. and complete. I see them as precursors to the main songs etc... they are a part of otherness.

Nope, sorry, the filler annoys the shit out of me.  And I have a high tolerance for filler, since I listen to grateful dead shows... they may noodle around tuning up and deciding what to play for a few minutes between songs, it just doesn't sound pretentious and annoying when :gd_icon: does it.

Tool gets far more respect in my book than most other bands due to the real emotion behind there songs.

They are not just trying to be "rock stars" like most bands out there, they are artists. Maynard expresses himself through his art and he and tool are more than just corporate or popularity whores.
