Hey, I shot another wild hog this morning and....
    #233066 - 05/27/09 06:25 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

when I was at the ranch I saw so many mushrooms. God, I saw at least 500 of the damned things. Yeah, most weren't active but I did find some that I think were. I need to get a field guide and go picking next time I'm out there.

Anyway, the main point of this post was I got lucky with the hog. 2 days ago I purchased a new scope (Leupold 4-12X40) and put it on my gun/went to Cabelas and had them bore-site it. It was pretty close because I got a clean head shot right behind the pigs ear. It weighed close to 300lbs so I just left it where I shot it. I usually hall them off to the back of the ranch.

I also caught a few fish and shot a huge alligator snapping turtle. I snuck up over the ridge around the creek and there it was, sitting on a log. The snapper was huge! Luckily I had just got done target shooting and getting my scope on the money. He was about 100 yards away and I blew his had off. I know it's kind of mean but those bastards eat all the fish. That Leupold 4-12 is no joke. I can reach out and touch something with it.

Killing for fun, eh.  Not my style.  The mushrooms sound cool though.  Grab some pics if you can.

No guys, I don't shoot the hogs for sport. They tear up my families ranch. Last year they rutted up the yard so bad it couldn't be mowed for months. They eat all the vegatation so you can't grow crops and they crap all over the place. They have huge litters and can deliver a litter 3 or 4 times a year. I don't enjoy killing them but it is necessary. Why do you think they just passed a law allowing people to hunt them out of helocopters?

As for the snapping turtle. Damn right I enjoyed killing it. Those bastards eat the fish I'm trying to catch when I go to the ranch.

haha, I live in the city too, but I was raised in the country and my family has a 2000 acre ranch about an hour drive away. I hate the city so I try to get away when I can.

Don't feel to bad for the pigs. Normally I have my scope zeroed in where I can hit a dime at 100 yards. If you hit a hog in the ear-hole from the side, they drop and don't move. It's not like I'm just holding an M-16 and dumping 100 rounds per minute in their arse.

I've only had it one time. I was a kid and my papa (grandpa) took me to someone's house and we had turtle. I think it was softshell. God it was so fucking gross. It was chewy as hell and tasted like dirt.

I won't even think about eating turtle now, especially some huge pre-historic snapping turtle.

yeah, 3 lbs is a pretty decent catch out of a stock tank. you shoulda seen this tank earlier in the year, it was the size of a pond. then it rained and rained and rained and now its fuckin huge. I really don't even know where all the fish came from, but i'm not complaining. I'll eat justa bout anything. Its nice to catch your own food, feels rewarding. I have a vegetable garden as well and have gotten some peas, green beans, and onions out of it so far. Gonna be a good year!
