 Haircut advice?

Well now that I'm looking for a job outside the college context, my long flowing hippy hair probably isn't going to do me any favors. Besides, I'm tired of it, and it's just too hot in the summer.
So I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on what shorter hairstyles are good for someone with a widows peak and hair that's midway between wavy and curly. My face/head shape doesn't lend itself well to buzzing it down, and combed-to-the-side hair makes me look like a smarmy tool.
I'm leaning towards trying to pull off something like this:
(Ignore the fact that the pic is of jude law)
The only sort of style I can really envision working is some sort of short shag. I know I'll probably need to start using a little styling gel, but I'm alright with that if it means I don't have a lame haircut.
Thoughts?

Seriously, my hair goes down to my waist.
It's always washed, combed, pulled back from my face. I've never had anybody say anything about it.
With a big smile, a good attitude, and a college degree, you can get a job.
Too hot, that's different- go for a job with air conditioning.

haircuts are hard to describe.
i'd say go to a stylist and get some get some ideas from them.
the young chicks are usually the best.

Yeah, I guess I'll just see what the hair stylist thinks. And I definitely will wait til another time if I can't get a younger chick or a gay dude.

I just got my long hair cut about a week ago
I just asked what they recommended (old asian lady) and she pulled a hair mag out of a drawer and pointed to a few she thought would look decent, im happy I got it cut, showers take 5 mins instead of 20, I dont wake up with a mouth full of hair, I dont get sweaty on the back of my neck when I sleep / drive, blah blah blah

Waking up with hair in the mouth, loose hair around my unit, hair all over the house... I've wondered if cutting it would be worth it... maybe it is.
