Outdoor hydro

I want to move to Palm Springs, CA, USA, and dig 6X6X9 foot deep pits and put in 3 feet of rocks and then 6 feet of rock wool.  I will test different feminized Haze strains.
Any particular problems with outdoor hydro?  Is 3 feet of rocks enough drainage?

I tried it once and didn't get good results. Although technically it was a greenhouse. Water evaporated to quickly and the water temp got really warm. But this was in the summer time in southern California.

Palm Springs gets really hot it is the desert.  I grew some tomatoes once in soil.  I lived there about a year.  Thanks DeadKennedys420!
