So i have a mother in a 5 gallon bucket (DWC). It's gotten to the point where there's barley any space. And some lower branches are drying up. I'm just wondering how much you take off when trimming roots?
In Bonsai, the most you want to prune is 2/3rds of the root ball, but only for dormant plants. It would be less for active plants, so I would suggest limiting it to 1/2 of the current root mass.
Alternatively, you can try removing 1/4 just to see how it reacts, and removing another 1/4 later if everything goes well.
Honestly, I've never done it, but I would assume the rules of bonsai would apply here.
