New to growing, any tips?
    #825842 - 05/10/17 11:51 AM (6 years, 10 months ago)

So i have ordered my indica seeds and waiting for them to arrive.

For now i am reading ed rosenthal's book waiting for the seeds to arrive.
I think this book makes things a little bit complicated for me, its not like how you simply diy following 1 2 3, its filled with info and lots of teks. But gonna read it all anyway and its a small book.

-So after the seeds arrive I'll germinate them using a wet towel in a zip lock bag.
Should i close the zip lock bag?

-gonna buy the specific lamps.

-

-gonna buy a 5 gallon pot and use 4 parts TOPSOIL unsterilized or pasteruized 1 part verm and 1 part perlite.

-plant the seedlings.

-grow em for certain amount of time then flower them.

-harvest and dry.

Still needs to know how to apply nutrients and when to water them (i have read that you should water them when ever the soil gets dry).

Any tips are welcomed, i am trying to keep it as simple as i can.
Gonna keep this thread updated.

Cheers.

are you just going to use some soil from you back yard then?

The ziploc just keeps the paper towel moist.

Nutrients get mixed up with water and applied to the plants. How much and how often you need to feed them depends on the plants response. You have to watch them and see if they can take it or need it.

With soil you can use plain water for awhile, maybe even the whole time depending on the quality of soil. Nutrients in it but will be depleted by a fast growing cannabis plant. Eventually you'll probably have to add some.

Water whenever the plant needs it. Let it dry out a bit and if your in a container lift the pot up and feel how heavy it is. You can tell by lifting one corner if it has a bunch of water still. You'll get used to how light it should feel before you need to water.

I dunno, you might live in an area with really good soil or you might have high clay content, its hard to say. Dark is a sign of a lot of humus (the stuff that breaks down into food).

The ziplock can stay open a little. You can use a bowl and a plate if needed. Just make sure the paper towel doesn't dry out.

In another forum people love the coco coir and perlite mix, so i think I'll stick to this instead of playing with soils, and apply neutrens to the coco perlite mix.

Ok another question.

The weather where i live (egypt) in this time is between 35-40c high and 18-28c low and its a very dry weather.
Of course it doesnt get that high or that low its something in between.

I have searched but couldn't find what the a/c is used for!

Is it for air exchange or to keep the temp steady?

Air conditioners cool the air off. If your running a sealed system you want to use an A/C. If you have the windows open and lots of air running through you'll waste all the energy and the A/C will do nothing. It offsets the heat the equipment generates.

Run your lights at night when its cooler and easier to cool your garden. The outside air is nice and full of CO2 as well.

You might need a humidifier to keep the plants in an optimal environment. The stoma won't open properly if they feel they're going to loose all their water.

You'll probably have to battle the humidity and temperature to keep them in the optimal range.

Depends on the set up you choose.
Wouldn't be hard to set up a small room for about 500 bucks these days.

A 4x8 grow tent cost between $200 and 500. Depends on where you shop-- depends on the quality.  How much you spend is up to you. Some equipment you buy cheap at first and upgrade later as needed. Very rarely will you buy exactly everything you need for your final setup.

Hey oootribe.

Ive sprouted from a small planters pot with syran-wrap over the top. Worked fine. An alternative to the paper towel-ziplock bag method.

As long as u keep the soil moist during gernimation, u be fine.

Nutrtients arent really needed for the first month. Once it starts getting bigger, then u can feed it nutes. Start with low intensity light untill it gets bigger. Blowing on the stem during growth will make it stronger.

Also on light, keep it at 18 hours minimum for vegging. 12-16 hours maximum for flowering.

And yea, water as needed when the soil becomea dry. Good luck! :happyweed:
